Lovers of hats had a rare treat on Easter Monday at Canonbie Church, when Community Café activities included a marvellous private collection of period hats, loaned by Mrs Sheila Copland, along with an exhibition of glamorous hats and accessories, and an Easter Bonnet competition, where the creations of Moyra Batey, and young Sophie Carson were judged “best in show”! Visitors were thrilled by both the scale and quality of the exhibits, and by the beautiful floral displays. The event co-incided with the final day of the Moorland exhibition upstairs in the Church, and the Café was kept busy all afternoon. Proceeds of the event are being shared between Church & Residents Association who run the Café in partnership. A great many people generously contributed to the event, but special thanks were extended to Mrs Elizabeth Mitchell for the original idea, and all her hard work in making it happen!
