Volunteers Wanted

CaDRA was recently awarded funding from Dumfries & Galloway NHS, to develop and pilot a Community Café.

The Project has been supported by a multi-agency group of local organisations, in partnership with Canonbie United Parish Church, who are providing the venue.

The Church Vestry has been turned into a pleasant informal Café space, and we are now close to opening!

The café will be open to the whole community, although we particularly want to include older , isolated or vulnerable local people, who might enjoy informal social contact.

NHS funding made this possible, and so we are now looking for local people to volunteer , by baking, serving in the cafe, or by helping us with transport.

Wider community support is vital if the Café is to be successful, both in the ‘pilot’ phase, and if it is to continue and develop into the future.

We have lots of ideas about what else could happen at the cafe, and are keen to hear from local people about their suggestions.

For instance, we intend to install broadband, and plan to run computer classes, encouraging local people to get online.

The idea is that we will initially open for a couple of sessions per week, but if there are sufficient number of volunteers, we will look to extend that, for as much of the week as possible.

We are happy to accept whatever time commitment you are able to make, so would be delighted to hear from anyone who might have any time at all to offer!

An application form is attached, and you can also share it with family, friends and neighbours! Completed forms can be e-mailed or handed in at Canonbie Post Office. Click here for Application Form
